Was looking for some great BBQ for Memorial Day. Andy Nelson’s was highly recommended. I drove an hour to give them a try and they did not disappoint. Food was delicious! When I returned home, I noticed an item missing from my order. I emailed the store and was surprised to receive a phone call from Andy Nelson, the owner, to rectify the situation. Now that’s service! I will definitely be a repeat customer.
In town for a wedding. Recommended by our hotel. Great food. Decent prices for BBQ. My wife had the beef tips with beans and mac & cheese sides. I had the rib sampler with beans and cold slaw. Neither one of us could finish. We'll definitely come back if we ever get back to the area.
The best bbq around without a question.
Best beef brisket!! Sit outside and enjoy!
Great atmosphere but too much vinegar in the BBQ. I like this place, friendly staff and unique location, and I understand that there are different BBQ types, so clearly this is more my preference than a real issue with the food, but the BBQ sauce used by Andy Nelson's just had too much vinegar. This applies to their sides as well (particularly the baked beans). So if you like that type of BBQ, this place is great, but if you don't, you'll probably be disappointed.
We asked for the food to be brought out to our car when we arrived. We called from the the parking lot for 20 minutes. I finally went in and the customers and employees were not respecting 6ft distancing at ALL! There were also more than 10 people inside and the staff did not say a word. I won't be back. Very disappointed.
I've eaten at this restaurant many many times. Pulled pork sandwich is very good although it does not have much spice. The bread on the pulled pork sandwiches are very mediocre in quality. The stewed tomatoes are excellent. The baked beans are good if they are fresh, but often times they seem like they've been sitting around a few hours, and the same is true with the collard greens with the exception that both the baked beans in the collard greens are spiced very well and extremely enjoyable if fresh and hot. It's really too bad that Andy is getting up in age because he has a strong influence on the motivation of the staff and the quality of the food. Nevertheless oh, I do recommend this restaurant and you should know that I do not recommend many restaurants.
Absolute best BBQ you'll ever have and reasonably priced. Highly recommend!
Great food and cozy dining areas with Baltimore sports memorabilia all around. Seat yourself in a rickity chair and dig in. A real treasure. Great meet up spot for lunch. Well worth the drive.
I've been getting Pulled Pork Express with cornbread and bbq beans since 2004. It's amazing with the Bama bbq sauce. It's a classic hole in the wall that you should definitely try.
Awesome.... only if you smell meat cooking, any visit could be your best or your worst food choice of the day if its not cook day, that is why a 5star gets 3stars
Amazing Pit Beef and atmosphere
Truly love this place. It is a family-owned small business restaurant and you feel it when you are there. All the employees are kind and courteous, they smile and are happy to help you. The food comes out hot, fresh and in a timely manner. The dishes are priced more than affordable. You cant go wrong here.
I have been to Andy Nelson's many times and always enjoy seeing Andy still working at his business. The best beef tips anywhere. Always enjoy the food and my sides of potato salad and beans. Wonderful place to have some good food..
Amazing barbecue I recommend anything on the memu
Well, I can honestly say, you guys stole me from Charcoal Deli! Excellent food!!!
We used Andy Nelson for our wedding of about 75 and had a great experience from start to finish. They were helpful at answering all questions and making changes to the menu as needed leading up to the event. Food was delivered on time and was absolutely delicious and plentiful! The guests loved it and we loved having leftovers for ourselves :P Thank you for everything!! It was delicious!!
Run, don't walk to this place. I'm sorry I haven't tried the ribs. It's because I can't break free from the brisket...it's soooo good! Sides? Get the potato salad and then the baked beans. I get the platter (sandwich and 2 sides). Oh, and don't make it too hard on yourself. Just call ahead and use the drive thru if you don't want to eat inside. Hands down the best barbecue in the area.
This place is quiet interesting!!! They keep the decoration pretty old time. Food are all good, and affordable. It's similar to Mission BBQ, but It has its unique food. This place is famous for their corn cake. The food is awesome, and it's a lot of food. I couldn't even finish it.
Great Bbq. Nice place with outdoor seating
This is a five star rating for bbq north of the Mason-Dixon. In NC it would be a 2.5-3 star rating. It's among the best in the region though unless you come to my house.
Visited 3 times this week while in town for training. Really loved the ambiance and having the namesake there handing me my food. The pulled pork is very good and reminds me of chopped pork from Kansas City. The brisket tips are fabulous and have a great flavor. Although my order was a touch on the dried out side, there was a nice layer of fat cap that was left in place and rendered well, so it really helped with moisture level in each bite. Collard greens are very good and the cornbread is solid. Baked beans tasted like they had a bit of a Maryland spin on them (i.e. tasted more than a hint of Old Bay). Sweet tea is just right level of sweetness. Can't say I recommend the sliced brisket, but all the other offerings were solid and enjoyable. Pricing was just about right and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Will definitely re-visit if I'm anywhere close to the Hunt Valley area again.
My husband and I came upon this place accidentally in 2018 on our honeymoon. After seeing 1000+ reviews, we knew we needed to try it. We are hooked now!! Our favorites include their pork, brisket, mac & cheese, and potato wedges. But seriously, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Make sure to sign up for their loyalty program!
Never a disappointing meal when I come here. I got the beef brisket, and enjoyed it with corn bread and macaroni and cheese (although I ordered collard greens). I washed it all down with a very dry lemonade, which is the best I've ever had. Keep up the good work!
We all ordered the same thing, Pulled Turkey Q, none of us even ate half of it. I normally don't bash businesses, but it was the worst bbq sandwich ever. Stewed tomatoes were very good as well as the cornbread.
Oh My Gosh! I have become a fan of barbecue - finding myself in Texas fairly frequently. So when my boy comes to visit he takes me to his favorite spot to eat, Andy Nelson's Barbecue. YUM! The flavor and the love is right out of Memphis, Tenn. You will get nothing better for barbecue in all of Baltimore. Beef, turkey, ribs, and chicken with sumptuous sides like mac n cheese, greens, cole slaw and pickles. Delicious buns and lots of sauce! Chat it up with the friendly staff - it's a family thing!
Delicious food. Friendly, fast. The girl was personable and helpful.place was cozy. Its a old house.nice fixins bar. Sign up for rewards and get a free shirt.
Food was great! Ordered online, picked up right on time. Staff was wonderful.
I make sure to stop in for lunch whenever I am in the area. I have never been disappointed whichever meat sandwich I choose and the Potato Salad is my favorite side dish, best Potato Salad in the area. I enjoy the atmosphere while dining in, love to check out the old Baltimore Colts memorabilia.
ordered the dry ribs and pulled pork and it was delicious. the food however was a little overly salty. the meat off the ribs melted off and the pulled pork once drizzled in the bbq or mustard sauce was delicious. will be back again in the future to try the rest of the menu.
It is a quaint place with a garage style seating and right off a main thoroughfare. The side dishes were excellent. Alabama style ribs were tender. I like my sauce sweeter but overall good flavor to the ribs. My only recommendation would be to add a sweet bbq sauce option. They have a drive thru which is also convenient and the staff is friendly and efficient.
Don’t waste your time or money anywhere else. Absolutely number 1. 10 stars, unbeatable
This is a family favorite of ours. Though the selection is somewhat limited, the flavor of the food is delicous. The portion sizes are also very good - you would not be left hungry and wanting more. It is a great place to go during the warmer months, as they have outdoor seating. It's a family friendly, casual, quick place to stop and grab a bite to eat. A major bonus is the drive through! So if you are in a hurry and don't have to time to sit and eat or if you have the kids (or pups) in the car - they have you covered. Overall a great local place!
Great music great food
I went here on January 30, 2020 and the restaurant was closed. A sign on the door stated "closed for repairs". I went to The Corner Stable a few miles south of this location as an alternate and had a very good meal. They have ribs and other barbecue foods as well as excellent seafood.
Excellent food at a very reasonable price. Will be very busy at lunch! Wet ribs are well worth taking some time out of your day for.If your in to football some nice memorabilia as well.
Great food, and enjoyed a wonderful (free) outdoor concert; apparently that's something Andy's does during the summer.
An institution of great BBQ. Beef brisket that is most AND lean. Great food, great service.
Normally love this place. Just picked up dinner and unfortunately the woman working the drive through had her mask under her nose. What is even the point? The food wasn’t very warm either.
Great food! Best brisket, definitely skip the bbq potato wedges, nothing nice to say about those
The staff is friendly and helpful. Food came fast and was delicious! I gave 4 stars because my friend wanted brisket tips as well but they ran out.
Great food for a reasonable price! Highly recommended if you need some good bar b que! Sweet tea and corn bread is the best around!
I had enough meat on my pit beef sandwich for 3 sandwiches. Thank you Andy Nelson's for another wonderful dinner.
We are Andy Nelson BBQ addicts! Catering is excellent and reasonable too. Seriously, if I could give this place ten stars, I would!! Wanna know what's good? EVERYTHING! Pulled pork, brisket, ribs (I'm a dry rub fan), chicken, beans, cole slaw, collards, etc. - it's all delish!!
First time I was there the brisket sandwich was amazing. Second time it was tough and tasted terrible. So it's a hit or miss.
Best BBQ in Baltimore by far! Sauces are awesome and pork is great. Large portions for the price. Employees are always courteous and friendly. Highly recommend to anyone.
It was good! I ate the Pit Beef sandwich .. Friendly staff.. you can eat outside which is good.
First time eating here and I ordered a brisket sandwich with collard greens and Mac and cheese. Hands down the best southern style pit bbq brisket I’ve ever had from any pit beef places in or around surrounding Baltimore. The restaurant itself gives you that old time southern country feel on the inside and outside of the place. Employees were very nice. Definitely gave good portions. They have Decent amount of seating on the inside. Looks like there was more seating outback and possibly during summer season. Also seen a sign for drive thru which I will be going through soon. Definitely will be coming back to try some of your other menu items. 5 stars all day in my opinion. Can’t wait to try the pit beef next.
Visit this placeI have dined at this restaurant about 20 times now, on my own and also with a work crew of linemen and have always, always had a great experience here. The food is great and always fresh the meat products I usually get my food without any sauces because it really doesn’t need it but I can understand why some would add a little more flair. The Diverse friendly, cordial, polite, knowledgeable staff is amazing they make you feel like your at home. The prices are great and compliment the food and the service. The restaurant is always clean and the seating is great for huge gatherings or small intimate.I am just a customer and was very happy to take time out to write this review as a linemen I eat out a lot and get a lot of bad service but never from this restaurant. So thank you Andy Nelson for making me feel valued as a customer and making me feel that my hard earn money was not wasted on your product.
